Farm Stays in Swan Valley, WA
The Swan Valley is Perth's original farmland — a broad river flat along the upper Swan, first planted with vines in 1829, which makes it Western Australia's oldest wine region and one of the oldest in the country. Just 25 to 35 minutes from the CBD via Guildford's heritage streetscape, the valley remains a working patchwork of vineyards, table-grape blocks, market gardens, olive groves and small holdings running everything from chooks to alpacas, all threaded together by the food-and-drink stops of the Swan Valley loop.
As farm-stay country, the Swan Valley is about ease. A farm stay in the Swan Valley suits families wanting a first taste of farm life without a road trip — feed the animals before breakfast, then spend the day among the valley's breweries, distilleries, chocolate and nougat makers, and long-table vineyard lunches. Fresh produce is everywhere in season: the valley's roadside stalls sell table grapes, stone fruit and melons through summer straight off the blocks behind them.
The valley is warm and dry through summer — river-flat heat is real in January and February, so pools and shady verandahs earn their keep — while winter and spring are green, mild and arguably the best time to visit, with the vineyard rows leafing out and Whiteman Park's wildlife and vintage trains nearby for kids. For fly-in visitors, it's the rare wine region ten minutes from an international airport.
