Farm Stays in Byron Bay Hinterland, NSW

Twenty minutes inland from Byron Bay's beaches, the coast road gives way to a folded green landscape of macadamia orchards, old banana country and dairy pasture draped over volcanic hills — the remnant slopes of the ancient Tweed volcano. Villages like Bangalow, Federal, Clunes and Newrybar sit along the ridgelines, each with a general store, a good coffee and a Saturday market somewhere nearby. It's farm country with a distinctly subtropical accent: camphor laurels along the creek lines, rainforest pockets in the gullies, and cattle grazing slopes so steep they look painted on.

A farm stay in the Byron Bay hinterland gets you the best of both worlds — mornings feeding animals in the mist that pools in the valleys, afternoons at Wategos or Broken Head twenty-five minutes away. Many properties here run a few head of cattle or horses alongside macadamias or regenerative market gardens, and hosts tend to be generous with produce: eggs, honey, whatever the orchard is dropping that week.

The hinterland stays warm and green nearly year-round. Summer brings big afternoon storms and lush growth; winter is the local secret, with dry sunny days in the low twenties, whales passing off the coast, and none of the summer crowds. From the Gold Coast airport it's about 50 minutes; from Brisbane roughly two hours; from Sydney it's a flight or a long day's drive up the Pacific Highway.

Saddles, Surf and Sips @ The Rustic Paddock

Horses And Guests
Crabbes Creek, NSW· 19 km away

Experience the old school farm house charm only 7mins from the closest riding beach. At the Rustic paddock we have room for 2 people and 2 horses in an elegant space brought back to life in this rustic old farm. Secure fencing, luxury room and friendly folk plus a few animals are all part of your stay. Ride at the beach, eat at the local cheese farm or drink wine at the boutique wine bar down the road. Browse teh plants at the famous local rainforest native plant nursery or just experience the locals at the general store. If you don't want to get out and about just eat in using the basic kitchenette. If your partner surfs and you ride send him surfing and come on a few local trails with me. Relax around the fire and watch the sun set over the paddocks or soak yourself in a bubble bath. The choices are endless. Please do note that areas of the farm and farm house are still under construction and some areas of the property are unfinished. What this means is there is construction evidence around the property and there are areas that will have restricted access or look a little unfinished. The room and the paddock however are fully functional. Due to this I have listed the room at a discounted rate. I'd love to get feedback during this time so that I can finish the property with input from guests so that the end result is the best experience I can offer for years to come.
